Save Our Wild Salmon

"Save Our Wild Salmon (SOS) is a nationwide coalition of conservation organizations, commercial and sportsfishing associations, businesses, river groups, and taxpayer advocates" (link).

  • What they neglect to say is that this seeming coalition of grass roots organizations and individuals is and has been bankrolled by mega-bucks foundations from the beginning. In fact, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation gave SOWS $200,000 in 2010 to support "their integration with the Pew Environment Group. Funding will be used to support staff participation in the integration efforts, and to sustain communications/outreach during the transition period" (link). Some grass roots! What are the odds that the folks at Pew and Moore, cashing in on their "investment," had SOWS send out a misleading press release opposing legislation that just passed in the House putting a serious crimp in EDF's/Jane Lubchenco's "want 'em or not, they're getting catch shares" campaign (for more on this, click here and here)?
